How Apple Developer Account Transfers Work

How Apple Developer Account Transfers Work

Before You Begin

Be sure to have an adequate understanding of the Apple developer account setup process and that you already have a developer account in existence by viewing our Enrolling In The Apple Developer Program article.

What's The Point?

Apple requires each developer account to have a point of contact at the facility in case a new license agreement is released or any other issue comes up. In the event that the original point of contact has left your facility, follow these steps to change the contact.

Steps To Complete

1) Add The New Contact To Your Apple Developer Account.

First, the new user will need to be associated with your Apple Developer Account. Follow these steps to invite them to your team:
  1. Go to App Store Connect.
  2. Click Users and Access.

  3. Click the + sign.

  4. Input their name, email, and set them as an Admin. Then click Invite.

  5. The user will receive an email from Apple to accept the invitation. Have them follow the steps outlined in the thread.

2) Transfer The Account Holder Role

Next, you'll initiate the transfer of your Account Holder role to the individual you invited in section 1. To do so, please follow these steps:
  1. On the Apple Developer website, click Membership Details at the top of the screen.

  2. Click Update Your Information.

  3. In the modal that appears, click Transfer Account Holder Role.

  4. Once selected, click Choose A Candidate.

  5. In the dialog that appears, select a person from the “Transfer to” pull-down menu, then click “Continue”.

  6. Read the Account Holder Transferor Agreement, select the checkbox, then click “I Agree”.
  7. The person you’ve selected to be the new Account Holder will receive an email with instructions on how to complete the process in step 3.

3) Accept The Account Holder Role On Apple's Site

After receiving the email generated from the previous step, follow the below steps:
  1. Launch the Apple Developer app on an iOS device.
  2. Tap the Account tab.
  3. Sign in with your Apple ID associated with your application or Apple Developer account.
  4. Tap Verify Your Identity.
  5. Enter your legal first name, legal last name, and phone number. Do not enter an alias, nickname, or company name as your legal name, as doing so will cause a delay in verification.
  6. Capture your driver’s license or government-issued photo ID:
  7. Capture the front of your photo ID and tap Confirm.
  8. Capture the back of your photo ID and tap Confirm.
  9. Review the information you submitted and tap Continue.
  10. When your identity has been verified, you’ll see a confirmation screen. You can then return to the web to complete the process outlined in Step 3.

4) Complete Account Holder Transfer Online

  1. Sign into your account on the Apple Developer website.
    1. Your Apple ID must have two-factor authentication turned on.
  2. In your developer account, click “Review Agreement” at the top of the screen.
  3. In the dialog that appears, review the Account Holder Transferee Agreement, select the checkbox, then click I Agree.
